Mission/History

Our Mission Statement

Lifetime Assistance, Inc. is a community leader, providing comprehensive services to children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.

Our goal is to foster independence, self-reliance and respect for individuals with disabilities. Our vision is to help each person reach his or her full potential – and realize the opportunities of a lifetime.

Our History

More than three decades ago, former Board of Directors Chairman Donald Lowry (deceased), his wife Donna (who currently serves on Lifetime's Board), Nancy Harking, and other loving parents, with the support of local and state agency leaders, founded Lifetime Assistance Incorporated.

They shared a common vision for an organization that would allow their children with developmental disabilities to live with the highest possible level of independence. This dream started to become a reality when Lifetime opened its first day treatment program, serving 32 people in November 1978.

Today, thanks to the generous support of a great many people throughout Western New York, Lifetime Assistance serves over 1,800 people every day at over 50 sites. Lifetime provides a full spectrum of individualized services to help children and adults with developmental disabilities reach their maximum potential by promoting self reliance, dignity and a sense of purpose.

The services are fantastic. Best staff I have ever seen. Thanks for all you do for my son!

- Mary Lou Helberg (mother of Kevin)
