Family and Friends

Founded in 1991, Lifetime Assistance Family and Friends (LAFFs) was created to provide support to families of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through education, personal experience, and friendship.

Programs

Lecture Series

Family and Friends serves as a forum to provide families with current information on topics to help support their loved ones.

Topics include:

  • Advocacy
  • Trusts and Estate Planning
  • Proposed statewide and regulatory changes and potential impact on services
  • Agency updates
  • Various social events

Advocacy

At Lifetime Assistance we understand the importance of ensuring our representatives in government are keeping us on their mind.

A group of LAFFs travels to Albany annually to visit local assemblymen, senators, and OPWDD officials to advocate for the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities. We also work with affiliate organizations to bring awareness to important issues.

Self Advocacy

The group meets monthly to discuss topics that impact their lives such as current legislation, job situations and other common issues. Individuals also develop the skills and techniques necessary to advocate on their own behalf.
